About We SEE Trees

We're a community tree nursery in Weston-super-Mare, set up in 2023 to grow trees from locally sourced seed and connect the community.

The nursery

Our nursery is in Maltlands, in the Winterstoke ward of Weston-super-Mare, on a once-disused space next to Maltlands Play Area. Local people have been transforming it into a place to grow trees, with support from Weston-super-Mare Town Council and North Somerset Council.

The trees we grow are for planting around the town: in parks, school grounds and community spaces, and as hedgerows, orchards and gardens.

Why it matters

In 2014, a North Somerset Council survey found that trees covered just 8.2% of Weston-super-Mare, and about a sixth of that cover came from ash trees, which are now threatened by ash dieback. Weston-super-Mare Town Council has committed to planting and establishing at least 10,000 trees by 2030.

Trees grown locally, by local people, are one way to help. Every tree we raise is one more for the town.

Part of something bigger

We're closely linked with the Weston Tree & Plant Group, which brings together organisations, councils and communities to increase tree cover and biodiversity across Weston-super-Mare.
